Architect with a Master in BIM Methodology applied to engineering. I am creative, investigative and with initiative, I think"out of the box"and continually seek to learn and grow at work within the BIM methodology. I put passion in what I do, I loveinnovation, thecollaborative work, theplanningand theinformation management.I like professional challenges; I assume them withresponsibility and leadership

Chapter 2: Digital construction. What is BIM?
Today, the notion ofBIMhas wrong views caused, in my humble opinion, by the interests of the different actors in the AECO sector, which try to bias the global understanding of what BIM is, so it seems to me a good idea to start by trying to explainwhat BIMNOit is.
Some of the visions that I talk about in the previous paragraph and that have had the most impact are those that the software manufacturers have intervened. These companies have invested veritable fortunes in marketing campaigns and "props" to governments to implement BIM and, therefore, their arm of influence has reached the point where most of the players in the AECO sector and even the clients, associate the term BIM with the process of creating 3D models of an asset(buildings, infrastructure, linear works, etc.) that is being designed for its construction. Hence, when a client calls our office, the immediate request is “I want it in BIM” referring, in general, to the modeling of the project in Revit® generally.
BIM is not a software exclusively, neither is it an objective (as when we hear or say that “we are going to do it in BIM”).BIM is a mediumto ensure that the participants and the processes that involve the conceptual design, its development until reaching the executive and its constructionare more efficient, have greater traceability and gain in productivity.
Going to the definition provided by theBuilding Smart Spanish Chapter Association:
“BIM is a work methodologycollaborativefor the creation and management of a construction project, whose objective is to centralize all the information of a project in a digital information model created from the data generated by all its agents.”
So,BIM is not only TECHNOLOGY,are also PROCESSES, in the understanding that a process involves the establishment of a jobcollaborativebetween the agents of the sector, which covers the entire life cycle, relying on new technologies.
This double conceptualization ofBIMWhattechnology and processmakes this methodology totally linked to theinnovation and digitizationthat we so much require.
doThe kind reader has noticed that within the previous paragraphs the words“collaborative” and “collaborative”? Well, this is not due to the new fashion of segregating genders and that our wonderful Spanish language is being annoyed (citizens, male and female managers, male and female directors, presidents and "presidents"...), it is becauseBIM,As has already been established, it is a work methodology that must be immersed in acollaborative cultureand also in theintegration of all the participants in the conception, development and execution of the projects(architects, engineers, external consultants, builders, clients, suppliers...) where transversal communication flows will be generated among all.
If you only sign up for modernity, at the forefront of hardware and software, I am afraid to tell you, dear reader, that what you are doingIt is NOT BIM. And you will probably answer that it is, because now you work much faster than when you used CAD and you are very, very tidy in your folders, in your nomenclature and you have absolute neatness in your modeling. If you are using all that avant-garde, technology and processes to carry out YOUR own participation in the project, without taking into account any of those involved and without considering the project as a whole, no matter how much you are the "Speedy González" of the modeling and a “control freak” in your own processes… youYou are NOT doing BIM.You could become a source of contagion (or inspiration if you prefer) so that all your project partners join your effort and work together, sharing and exchanging information for the good of the project in an integral way, then yes,“will be doing it in BIM”.
This new way of working shows that in the "traditional" way in which our sector has been working, there are aspects that point to various levels of deficiency, including sequentiality, which, in my opinion, is the real drama, the origin of all evils (dramatic violins play in the background).
But that is a topic for the next article….

Inclusion of structural engineering in the BIM methodology
The general perspective that exists about BIM is that it is a great project visualization tool, another group of people has the vision that it is useful for this and also to quantify. This very limited vision of BIM is shared by many (if not the vast majority) structural colleagues, at least speaking of Mexico.

Chapter 1: Digital Construction
Today when we hear about digitization or virtuality, they are words that we hardly associate with construction, engineering or architecture. This is because we who are dedicated to thebuildingwe continue to build the same as more than two thousand years ago!!! This is when the reader thinks, "This woman has lost her oremus!
